Sensei Marcus Webb

Founder & Head Instructor

Fourteen years ago, Marcus Webb stepped onto a mat in a cramped basement gym and never left. What started as a way to build confidence became a calling. He trained under some of the most respected coaches in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, earning his 3rd-degree black belt and competing extensively across the Pacific Northwest and Southeast Asia.

In 2014, Marcus spent eighteen months training and fighting in Thailand, competing in eight sanctioned Muay Thai bouts and deepening his understanding of the art's cultural roots. On the mats, he's a two-time IBJJF Pan American Championship medalist at brown and black belt, an IBJJF Masters Worlds semifinalist, and has competed in ADCC regional trials. He returned to Portland with a vision: a gym that honored tradition without the pretension, where discipline was earned through sweat and repetition, not purchased with expensive memberships.

He opened Iron Crane Academy in 2019 in a converted warehouse in the Pearl District. The exposed brick, the high ceilings, the raw concrete floors covered in mats—it felt right. No mirrors, no fancy equipment, just space to work.

Today, Marcus leads a team of four instructors and mentors over 200 students, from white belts to black belts, kids to competitors. His teaching philosophy is simple: show up, listen, roll, repeat. The rest takes care of itself.
